A quick animation I made yesterday evening of a ball bouncing off a wall. I know it looks a little weird bouncing off the wall, this rig is a bit tricky to pull off squash and stretch at weird positions like that one. Took about 4 hours using Maya 2010, extra time was spent setting up some good render settings and trying out Adobe Media Encoder, which came with my pack of CS4 programs (to my surprise). Between that and my Sony Vegas Platinum 10, I'm all set for pumping out good quality playblasts and renders. Uploaded to YouTube because no matter what I did the file size was "too small" for Vimeo. Weird!
I'm working out of a bit of a slump/depression creativity-wise, so I'll be producing either a short animation or sketches at least every other day. Cheers!
My second CG animation class. I did pretty well overall, I remember being quite proud of some of my animations here. I also tried working with different rigs to improve my flexibility.
Here's some of my animations from my very first course in computer animation, using Autodesk Maya. Not all of them are here because I either couldn't find the latest version, or it wasn't very good. x) Also, one of our assigments was just posing a character, so no animation there. Refer to each video's description for more details.
My first experience working with pencil-and-paper animation, I think I had this class in my 2nd or 3rd quarter. The first assignment consisted of the two most basic animation exercises, a pendulum and a bouncing ball. The pendulum focused on timing and had to loop smoothly, while the ball taught physics and had to bounce 3 times and settle to a stop.
Next was our first walking animation, we had to make a character take 3 steps. This one looks really "stompy" because I copied the example poses a bit too well.
Then we had to make a walk cycle that held the character in place. I made a zombie character for fun, and tried to make him slump and flop all over. It kind of worked...
The next assignment was more complex, we had to animate a flour sack climbing up a slide, then sliding down it. We had to use a second layer of paper for the background, I outlined mine in pen to make it stand out more.
There was a final project, which was basically 5 second animation of whatever we wanted, but unfortunately my idea was a bit too ambitious for me at the time and I never completely finished. What little I have of it was really rushed and just looks crappy. It was a decent idea, though - basically an alligator cowboy walks into a bar, tries to get a drink, but it gets shot out of his hand, so he gets mad and pulls out his gun.
