Comic - Sonic Adventure: You asked for it

Inspired by SGB Play Sonic Adventure DX, part 18. (click here)

Just a quick funny thing, trying to get into the habit of drawing out my ideas, no matter how dumb/silly.

Hail to the Queen

hoo boy finally finished, some sketches I did to test out those Stumpy Pencil brushes which got a little out of hand, but wow this was fun, just lookit how nice and pencily these look! Almost like the real thing!
another character from OFF, The Queen, with some uh, liberties taken. Wanted to draw these ideas out for a while. If you think this is ridiculous, this is uh, kind of the norm for OFF fans and their interpretations. If ten thousand people can draw four-eyed Batters and buff Zacharies, then I can draw Vader as an amorphous one-eyed tentacle-root monster. Hail to the Queen, baby.

Inspired by some of her original concept art by mortis ghost:

Just Sketches

best of from a doodle page
looked up batting gloves and sketched some out, the stars aligned and helped me draw some decent looking hands for once!
and uh yeah, husky batters.

Messing around making a lovecraftian god monster thing based on a silly idea I had at the time. Who is he? Who knows, who cares.

Lookit All These Gators

I can't draw myself right so I became an alligator instead
this is it, my true form, my innermost beauty
I actually have a bright pink hoodie in real life, it makes me look fab.

gator sketches and warmup doodles from the past month
includes Animal Crossing-style gatorsonas because New Leaf is all over the place and boy do I want it.

Doodles and E3 Thoughts

it's been getting uncomfortably warm lately, one day I doodled these as some stress relief and thought they were interesting.

woke up annoyingly early to catch the 7am Nintendo Direct the other day, so I doodled while listening to this spankin' new Vocaloid song Raspberry Monster while waiting for it to start. The video's pretty rad and I have a soft spot for girls who punch things so I drew this character and liked it, then spent most of the morning messing with it while crying blogging about all the E3 and Nintendo Direct news over on Tumblr. I'll draw her better some other time.

Speaking of E3 - good grief so much craziness! From Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot and Sony subsequently rubbing it in their faces, to new IPs and indie games like Watch Dogs and Transistor, to tear-inducing announcements like Kingdom Hearts 3 (GASP) and Smash Bros. 4, but here's the real kicker:

MEGA MAN! MEGA MAN IN SMASH BROTHERS! Quite literally a dream come true, despairing mega man fans are coming out of the woodwork and rising from their graves over this news! In one minute and a half trailer Nintendo has probably done more for the mega man fanbase than Capcom has in the past 5 years. I could write an essay on how great he looks and how wonderfully Nintendo has done him justice, but in short I'm just ecstatic! (please go watch the trailer it is amazing)

And what's more a Villager from Animal Crossing and of all things, the Wii Fit Trainer are also joining the fray! What a time to be alive! This is pretty much my first time seriously watching and participating in anything from E3, and I'm very happy I did! There's nothing quite like hundreds of people screaming with excitement over video games, no arguments, only joy.
I'll definitely have to draw something in honor of some of these events, look out for that.

Now if I could even afford any next-gen consoles or games...

Elec Bust

A quick bust of Elec Man based on a request on Tumblr. Took the opportunity for some quick ink and color practice. Bonus sketch version.
I haven't drawn robots in a while and it shows. =/
I'll draw more Mega Man things eventually, I still have plenty of ideas and such.

Studio Killers Doodle!

My copy of the new Daft Punk CD came in the mail, but before then I spent all day listening to Studio Killers, so here's a quick and dirty doodle of Chubby Cherry!

Something seems OFF

My first decent OFF fanart and of course it's a dumb comic thing.

I randomly thought of this while trying to fall asleep one night, and it took most of my willpower to keep from waking the whole house with laughter.

I have several pages of sketches about this game I'm planning to scan later today. Nah I'm not obsessed or anything ahahaha *fills ten more pages with OFF drawings*

Have some Rolls! (they're delicious)

Here's some Mega Man/Rockman fan art I've been doing lately. It's my own little interpretation of mega man's house-sitting sister, Roll!

These were all drawn in Adobe Flash, by the way.
Here's some official art I used for reference:

RollMM9
Latest artwork of her original design
During and after Mega Man 8 she looked like this for a time

I noticed she always had rather large bangs, so I thought it would be fun to exaggerate that and give her a more mature, mellow look. Maybe over the years she becomes a little less of  a coward and more of a big-sister-type for her hero brother? He could probably use the emotional support, I dunno.

Her original design is cute but I think I like her Mega Man 8 look a bit more, it's more fun to draw and simply adorable! If anything, her tank top dress + sandals would be her summer outfit and the long-sleeved one + boots would be more ideal for colder seasons. Err, if robots were actually bothered by heat and cold - I like to think most robots in the Mega Man universe are advanced enough to sense those kinds of things.
Ok, enough of my rambling.

The ~jeminy3 signature is my alternative online name, these pieces and more are up on my (far less professional) deviantart and tumblr sites. Feel free to visit if you're tired of me not updating here often enough!
(be warned I'm serious about the less professional thing)

Pixel Art Experiments

The result of some recent pencil brush experiments. At this point I'd found just the right settings to get these nice flowing lines and started drawing robot master faces. Then I thought, "Hey! These look nice and kind of artsy, let's try drawing robot faces in as few lines as possible! It'll look cool!"

Results were mixed. The ones I drew first are on the far right and it kind of worsens as you move left haha. Oh well, I love drawing faces anyway.

Characters belong to Keiji Inafune/Capcom.

Earlier work is considerably darker, hit the break if you dare...

Happy Not-Valentine's-Any-More!

So yeah I was gonna draw something funny for Valentines and this happened. I guess it's well enough, this was funnier than anything else I had in mind.

Though I got carried away with that second panel and took way too long and there's still lots of mistakes but ARGH WHATEVER
WHY CAN'T I DRAW GOOD
Oh well, problems are being worked on and I still had a nice Valentine's Day, went trail-walking with my mom and got some frozen yogurt on the way home, yum. And of course got some chocolates the day before.

(and yeah that's based on my current desk setup without the other top shelf and junk everywhere)

Cheers!

Lurking Around

So recently I've been hanging around deviantArt and Tumblr, browsing through artwork and funny posts for inspiration and such - unfortunately I'm rather shy and haven't really been communicating with people on these websites very much. I've only recently made accounts on those websites and started favoriting/liking things (many refer to this internet shyness as "Lurking")

I've got some ideas written down on things I can draw, mostly silly comics and jokes that I hope others will find funny as well. In that light, I may as well make the most of my natural awkwardness, and made sort of a persona character for myself:

A person in a box.
Well, I never said I was an expert in making original characters.

At least it's simple and easy enough to draw. Here's some sketches - I have far to much fun drawing silly expressions and poses. =)

I might make a little flash animation of that sequence in the top left someday, just for fun.

Filler Dragon is there because that's what I draw when I can't think of anything else.

Everything here was drawn in Flash, by the way.

Cheers!

Work from Background Design, April/May/June 2010

Though I'm planning on going into Animation as a career, I still try to take as many fine art-like classes I can to improve my creativity and artistic skill. I also wanted to become a Concept Artist when I first came to AI of San Diego, but quickly learned that its a very competitive career and only the very best make it that far.

I looked forward to this class to learn techniques for digital painting with Photoshop, and to learn composition and designing backgrounds/environments.

The overall theme was the story of the Odyssey.

The first painting was in all grayscale to help us learn values and such.
I designed an underwater shack as the home of Poseidon.
Next we were introduced to color. It's a bit easier digitally since you can just paint it in grayscale and colorize it.
I chose a more vertical page ratio, and designed Mount Olympus, home of the gods:At first they were going to be more Skyscraper-like, but the teacher insisted on keeping every environment within the same world in terms of style. So I took reference from 1800s style buildings.

For the final painting we were shown how to incorporate photo textures to enhance the painting and reduce the painting work you have to do. You have to tweak it A LOT to make it work though, or else it looks....photoshopped. :P

I tried an indoor environment this time, with our heroes sneaking through the home of the Cyclops seeking an escape:
The teacher showed me a way to darken the whole scene drastically, but I don't have the jpg of that version. I'd rather redo this painting, honestly.

Of the the three, I liked my first painting the most. Still, it was a great class.
