Pardon my weirdness, most of this is getting my excitement over this lovely short off my chest.
yo can we talk about how good the story was in this film I mean wow
it doesn't give long explanations or shove everything in your face all at once it starts with a lot of cool stuff going on and you go along with it and lets you think about the details of what happens on your own with what you are given
best example is obviously whatever became of Akko’s idol, Shiny Chariot - its heavily implied that the teacher who sent them in the dungeon was Shiny Chariot since she had red hair for a few moments at the end but there's other hints
like she was the lady overhearing Akko and Diana’s argument at the beginning and kind of reacted to it
and she recognized the shiny rod when Akko showed it to her and had a little inner monologue going oh my gosh the gems still have their power I thought they died out (something like that)
so you can assume that she used to be shiny chariot but went into retirement and hid her identity and dumped her rod deep within the dungeon, probably because all the other witches kept giving her crap about using her magic to put on shows for regular people
and Diana is basically a pain throughout but at the end she recognized the Shiny Arc attack and gets all flustered when Akko asks her why she knows that, you can infer she was a fan of Shiny Chariot as a kid but then Life happened and she blended in with all the other witches talking crap about Chariot
in fact she might have even been bullied or had some other sad event in her life where she lost admiration in Chariot and feels ashamed she ever admired her and thats probably part of why shes so driven to be a feared and powerful witch and ends up releasing the ancient dragon like a dumbass
speaking of which wow how did those girls not see how the little dragon obviously didn’t die when they shot lighting at him and then freaking swallowed the fireball and got bigger I would’ve been like whoa hold up a second but no they were like yo let’s blast him with this huge amount of power and I was physically covering my face and going omg no dont do that he eats the magic
of course if that happened there wouldnt be a climax so it was more out of excitement, i digress
its also cool they explain how Akko got into the school after the fact, like during the broom flying lesson you wonder why she’s so scared to fly but at the same time you sympathize with her because you’re new at this too and along for the ride, because really how do they just fly on the broom like that and not fall to their deaths
and afterwards her friends state that she’s from a normal family instead of a witch family where you practice flying on brooms since childhood
and you kinda feel bad for Akko and everyone talking shit about her idol and she even thinks to herself no one really understood Chariot, it’s like it wasn’t about being flashy and entertaining people it was about showing people that anyone can use magic and do amazing things if they have ‘a believing heart’, which is something like believing in yourself and your inner strength, that’s where real magic comes from
but at first I just thought Akko was a biased fan but by the ending I understood her more and what Chariot meant to her like man she’s a good character
all the characters are great gosh Lotte is so cute she’s basically me when I was in school I was the weird shy kid who liked learning and doing homework becuz heck if I had anything else to do at home besides toys and video games, and she’s scared and cautious but super nice and kind to people gosh
and I frickin love Sucy she doesn’t give a crap she’ll poison you and watch you melt into a puddle of blood she’s freaking metal, she’s all dark and gloomy but has a sense of humor and is really smart she’s great
and I already talked about Diana she’s basically the Rival but kind of makes amends with Akko in the end
I like how obviously guilty she looked when the teacher was ‘who would be dumb enough to release the ancient dragon we’re all screwed now’ OOPS she probably never admitted to it afterwards haha
boy this got super long whoops oh well bye
